Things I Want To Do.

In no particular order.  Just random things I wish to do or accomplish at the moment.
  1. Visit Rome
  2. Move to a new city
  3. Obtain a passport
  4. Write a novel
  5. Write a script

Giving Back to the Community

People are quick to tell someone else what they're doing, or what they're not doing. How often do people evaluate themselves, and try to find room for improvement? I'm also guilty of this. I feel as if i'm an upstanding citizen, but sometimes it's not enough. I haven't done community service since I was in high school, and even then our school had a mandatory 40 hours of community service to graduate rule, so it's not like I did it out of the kindness of my heart. It's time I evaluate myself, and my grade is a "D".  I didn't give myself a "F" because I'm a good citizen.  I don't start trouble, I donate to the homeless, and I help others when I can.  Even though my grade isn't a "F", I still have tons of room for improvement.
Things i used to say: I want to walk/run a marathon for Breast Cancer Awareness. (Even though I've shown my support for the cause by buying everything from (BCA) t-shirts, tote bags, and an umbrella, it doesn't take away from the fact that I haven't walked the marathon.  I wanted to talk to inner-city kids about how important the decisions they make now can impact their future.  But of course this never became a reality.  I visited my old elementary school last year when I just moved back to Chicago from Las Vegas, and had a talk with the principal, who said she needed me to speak to the students because they were just out of hand.  At the time I was just concerned with finding employment that I put it on the back burner.  Now I regret it.  Especially seeing children around the city, and how they talk and act, and how little respect they have for adults and authority.  My words of wisdom can't save the world, but it could of done something.
I will work harder at being a better me, a more helpful, caring, sharing, motivating individual who's not self-centered and doesn't just care about things that affect me. What I'm trying to say is that I don't want to be 90 years old and realize that I didn't give anything to the world.  Just a user of the world's resources.

The "Sometimes" Friend

I rather you avoid me than be fake towards me.  The "sometimes" friend consist of a person who only wants to be around you if they're benefiting from the situation.  The "I need you to do this" or "Can you please come with me here" type of friend. But when the tables are turned, these "friends" are nowhere to be found. The "sometimes" friend is the friend who acts differently (brand new) when they get around certain people.  My thing is, if you're going to be fake, then why bother?  Isn't it a waste of time?  I think so.  If I don't like a person, then I just don't hang around them.  I don't say one thing, turn around and do another.  What's the point?  It seems like a waste of time, but ay!!! I guess some people just have the time to waste.
I'm the kind of person that likes to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.  Friends ask me all the time "Why do you talk to him?" or "Are y'all friends?", or "I don't like her, so why are you friends with her?".  I learned (from my mistakes in college) to judge people for myself.  Get to know people and make my own decisions.  Because the people who ask ed me to stop talking/hanging out with certain people are the ones who end up being the "sometimes" friends.  The "sometimes friend" always wants you to have their back, but they get out dodge when it's time to return the favor. The "sometimes" friend starts rumors about you, the "sometimes friend" makes excuses for their behavior. If they know they're wrong, they just make up excuse after excuse, as if you're dumb enough to believe it.  Nine times out of ten, I don't even tell people that they've been caught in a lie, because they'll just learn how to lie better.  I just let the evidence stack, and then cut you loose.
Have you every treated a person the way they treated you, just to see how mad they get?  It's kind of funny actually,  you think it's okay to do these things to other people, but when it's done to you, you can't stop running you mouth about it.  Making phone calls to everyone on your contact list to talk mess to whoever's willing to sit through the conversation.  Or you take the social network approach with subliminal Facebook updates and tweets. it's childish, and these people are just self-centered (well, at least that's what I think).

I'm Back!!!

I celebrated my 26th birthday this week, so I haven't had time to update much.  I had fun with close friends and family.  My girls and I kicked it last weekend (I'll post pictures at a later date, I just don't have the energy to do it now).  On my actual birthday I went to the museum, the movies, and out to dinner with my family.  I still can't believe i'm 26... such a blessing.  But anywayz, the site has a new layout.  I just couldn't take all that gray anymore, had to change it.  I still might change that red banner, I'm not feeling it that much, I just needed to make something quick lol.  Over the next couple days, i'll post the pictures I took, and all the juicy stuff that went down recently.

MTV True Life: I Hate My Face"

This episode aired a few months back and I wrote a blog post (below) about it on my blog "Urban Chicagoan".  I received a lot of search engine hits from this blog posts (even to this day) and it makes me wonder if people were just interested in the episode or if they felt like they could relate to the girls featured.  Either way... I decided to re-post it to this blog.....

I was falling asleep last night when MTV's True Life came on.  Since the title was "I Hate my Face", I thought I was about to see the ugliest, most disfigured faces in history.  Then I noticed it was just your normal insecure female seeking attention and approval, until I notice that their problems were much deeper.  One sprayed water on her mirror so that when she looked into it, she can only see a glimpse of her face (which keeps her from being disgusted at herself).  Her whole life is a mess because she hates the way she looks. She shops too much, still lives at home with her mother, and feels that she can't hold a job due to her ugly face.  Personally I think both of them are a complete mess, and I've seen WAY uglier people than them, but at the same time that's how they see themselves and nobody can change that for them.  It's truly a disease, and a horrible one to have.

The problem that I had with the show is that they both viewed Hiedi (from the Hills) as beautiful.  That's sickening.  This woman is has had over 10 surgeries to try and correct her imperfections and insecurities. She should not be considered a staple of beauty by any means.  These girls look in magazines, and at television to tell them how they should look, and that's their first mistake.  This is not a role model, this is an insecure girl with a lot of personal issues she thought she could hide from.

MTV: If You Really Knew Me

The third episode aired yesterday, and I came to the conclusion that this show is a tear jerker. Last night MTV visited Riverside High.  You had all types of clicks: punk, creeker, freak, popular, jock, homecoming queen, class clown, etc.  The "punk" was considered a freak because he basically looks like Justin Bieber .  The school.  Brittney's (pictured on next page) story stuck out the most.  It's hard to hear that you're the "worst daughter" by your own father. Or called names just people you look different, or because you have a disorder. It's even harder to share what your going through to a group of people that disliked and mistreated you (before the show).  Because we don't know what happens at the school once the camera leaves, if everybody ends up being friends, or if they use the information you shared against you.

When To Take Advice

Have you ever been in a situation (bad or good) and people are quick to give you advice?  Everybody has different opinions. and you don't know who's advice you should take, if anyone's at all.  Here's some guidelines.

1. If a person is going through a similar situation and they aren't following their own advice, THEN DON'T TAKE THEIR ADVICE.

2. If a person is always making careless mistakes and causing most of the problems in their relationships  (and they don't realize it) THEN DON'T TAKE THEIR ADVICE.

3. If they've given you horrible advice on numerous occasions, DON'T TAKE THEIR ADVICE.

Fashion Finds

Okay, i'm strapped for cash, so I have to give up luxury's  that I enjoy.  One being shopping.  Besides the fact that i'm broke, i've started working out and losing weight.  A lot of my clothes don't fit anymore, the brands I love, I can't really afford anymore.  Plus I don't want to invest in new clothing, because every month I'm a new size.  So what can I do to save money, but still look half decent?  Well I can tell you that I haven't spent as much times in Forever 21 as I do now..lol

Here's are 5 affordable outfits that are cute and trendy but don't break the bank.  (Side note: I go for more of the "classic look" lol) Every item can be found @ forever21.com

Basic Everyday black tee.... only $2.50

A shirt you can take from day to night $15.80

Breaking the Ice

This is my first blog post *YAY*  I haven't had a personal blog in over 10 years, and i'm excited to blog again.  Over the last year I created a couple blogs dedicated to other things, but after a while I would stop blogging because I started losing interest (I guess deep down inside I wanted just wanted a personal blog all along).  I was kind of scared to do it, I haven't seen many personal blogs lately, mostly people trying to promote something, than write about themselves. Plus i'm at a crossroads in my life, and I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in reading about it, but I guess i'll take a shot at it anyway.
I promise to try and update this blog as much as possible (it doesn't hurt that I have a lot of things to get off my chest).  If you operate a personal blog and would like to exchange links, or if you have any suggestions, or questions please feel free to contact me.
